At Hope of Family, we believe that strong families create stronger communities. In partnership with Muhanga District and Shyogwe Sector, we recently conducted a one-day Family Conflict Resolution Gathering to address pressing family challenges and provide practical solutions.
The event brought together 62 families from our operational sector who are experiencing family conflicts, along with 4 families who have successfully resolved their conflicts. These families courageously shared their experiences and testimonies, inspiring others on their journey toward reconciliation and family stability.
A High-Level Engagement for Community Change
The gathering was honored by the presence of Mrs. KAYITARE Jacqueline, Mayor of Muhanga District, alongside RIB, RNP, and sector officials. Their messages focused on:
✅ The role of each family member in fostering peace
✅ Tackling gender-based violence (GBV) within families
✅ Legal implications of family disputes and violence, as presented by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB)
This session aimed to equip families with the necessary knowledge and tools to build healthy relationships and prevent conflicts that often lead to serious social consequences.A Testimony of Transformation: Mukambonyi Delphine’s Story
A highlight of the event was the inspiring testimony of Mrs. Mukambonyi Delphine, a former Hope of Family beneficiary. Delphine participated in our one-year parental training program, covering essential topics such as:
📌 Parental involvement in children’s education
📌 Financial literacy
📌 Family conflict resolution strategies
📌 Sexual and reproductive health
📌 Community engagement through knowledge sharing
Delphine successfully applied these lessons to restore her family’s harmony, and today, she actively shares her knowledge with other families in the community. Her community assignment—a key part of our training—has empowered her to help others resolve conflicts and improve their family dynamics.
Understanding the Root Causes of Family Conflict
According to the Rwanda Governance Board's 2023 Citizen Scorecard Report, family conflict remains a leading cause of family instability, accounting for 22.3% of reported issues. Other significant challenges include:
📊 Extramarital affairs (17.2%)
📊 Psychological violence (16.1%)
📊 Economic violence (14.4%)
The report further identifies major root causes of family dysfunction:
🔴 Alcohol abuse (85.4%)
🔴 Poor communication between family members (81.3%)
🔴 Weak parenting skills (58.9%)
These issues not only affect family well-being but also have a negative impact on children’s education, which is at the core of Hope of Family’s mission. When families experience instability, children's learning outcomes suffer, limiting their future opportunities.
Moving Forward: Hope for a Better Future
We were encouraged to see families taking proactive steps during the gathering to address their conflicts and rebuild relationships. Our goal is to continue empowering families with knowledge, skills, and support to overcome challenges and create healthier home environments for their children.
At Hope of Family, we remain committed to promoting family harmony and child well-being. Through continued training, mentorship, and community engagement, we believe in building a future where every child grows up in a loving, supportive, and peaceful home.
💙 Together, we can strengthen families and transform communities!
