Mukashyaka Iphigenie is a resident of Nyakabingo Village, Kinini Cell, Shyogwe Sector, Muhanga District. She has a knitting business in her village.

After receiving assistance from Hope of Family organization, Mukashyaka Iphigenie affirms that her sewing career has significantly improved. As a gesture of gratitude to Hope of Family, Mukashyaka has now initiated free knitting training for young individuals in her community.

Additionally, her long-term objective is to establish a knitting school within her community.

“I was fortunate enough to receive the assistance of Hope of Family. The help they provided enabled me to bring my product to life. Thanks to their support, I have been able to expand my business significantly. It is clear that Hope of Family has played a crucial role in my success, and I am grateful for all they have done.” She said,

For Mukashyaka, Knitting is not just a hobby; it is a skill that holds immense value in today’s world. From creating beautiful garments to generating income through selling handmade products, knitting can provide numerous benefits to individuals and their communities.

By imparting this skill to the youth, Mukashyaka aims to equip them with a valuable trade that can empower them economically and socially.

“I have been with Hope of Family for nearly 10 months now. With the grace of God and the support of Hope of Family, I have come to the realization that I am not obligated to hoard the knowledge and opportunities I have acquired. I have made the choice to assist a young person, teaching her how to sew free of charge, in order to aid in her personal development.” Mukashyaka explained.

Mukashyaka’s ultimate goal is to establish a community-based knitting training center that will serve as a hub for learning and creativity.

“Now, my goal is to figure out how to increase the number of knitting machines from the two machines I currently have.” She said,

“By expanding my resources, I will be able to teach more individuals,” she added.

“My wish is that if I gain the ability, I can construct a knitting school in order to enhance both myself and society at large.” Mukashyaka added.

Mukashyaka’s vision of a community-based knitting training center requires support from various stakeholders.

“The idea of helping my colleagues crossed my mind as I sat down. I realized that I, too, should have someone to help, just like how Hope of Family helped me.” She said,

“There are numerous individuals who require assistance or aspire to seek help from Hope of Family but I think the organization cannot enroll all of us. With my little means I will also continue to transfer my knowledge as gratitude to Hope of Family.” She said.
